Julie Stone, LCSW, Managing Partner.
It may be that when we no longer know what to do,
we have come to our real work,
and when we no longer know which way to go,
we have begun our real jouney.

Julie Stone is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who provides counseling and psychotherapy to children, teens and adults. She earned her Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Julie then went on to earn her graduate degree in social work from Smith College, located in Northampton, Massachusetts. As a therapist, Julie provides empathy, support and practical feedback to help clients address current life challenges and/or long-standing issues. Julie's approach is non-judgmental, empathic, and relational in nature. With sensitivity and compassion, she helps adults, adolescents and children find resolution to a wide range of personal concerns and psychological challenges. Julie uses a combination of narrative, cognitive-behavioral, and psychodynamic theories in her work with adults and teenagers. Her work with children includes cognitive behavioral therapy, and art and play therapy.
Julie has received specialized training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), an evidenced based treatment model for working with children and teens who have been sexually abused or otherwise traumatized. The goal of TF-CBT is to help address the unique biopsychosocial needs of children with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or other problems related to traumatic life experiences, and their parents or primary caregivers. TF-CBT is effective in treating children (ages 4 to 18) who have significant behavioral or emotional problems that are related to traumatic life events, even if they do not meet full diagnostic criteria for PTSD. Treatment results in improvements in PTSD symptoms as well as in depression, anxiety, behavior problems, sexualized behaviors, trauma-related shame, interpersonal trust, and social competence. Over 80% of traumatized children will show significant improvement with 12-16 weeks of treatment (once a week; 60-90 minute sessions).
Julie’s specialized clinical interests and expertise include anxiety and depression, women's issues (including adult survivors of childhood abuse), children and teens who have been sexually abused and/or otherwise traumatized, effective parenting, grief work (including traumatic grief work with children and teenagers), working with members of the LGBTQ community, supportive12-step recovery work, and assisting people as they navigate through major life transitions.
Throughout her clinical experiences, Julie has strived to offer culturally relevant services, always respecting the differences in family styles, cultures, and communities.
